The PORPA crew is making final preparations to compete in the Head of the Pend Oreille Regatta for the first time. It will be a big moment for PORPA and the HOP regatta. It seems they are ready.
Erwin Muller, arguably the crew’s most experienced rower, commented “You will see that we will have a great time at the regatta because we are getting it.”
PORPA also benefited greatly from the efforts of Jerry Person to coordinate the training all summer. As we come down to the wire, Jerry provides an update:
“This past weekend, we had Patricia as coach and Carol as cox, on Saturday. Thank you both, and well done! On Sunday Rozy was cox and impressed the crew with her skill as cox and coach on the boat. This seems like a good fit for Rozy and the crew.
This coming weekend is our last weekend practice before the regatta. I would like to thank the crew for their patience and instruction. Rozy, Val, Erwin and Gayne, you are the best!
Although technique is critical, as in the article here shared by Patricia, co-ordination and harmony in movement among the crew is also critical. Which means a good Stroke, both the position and the action; as that affects the whole crew. We are working on that goal.”
Patricia shared this article with every one. It is a great tutorial on improving your rowing technique, and provides an insight into the complexity of the rowing skill: http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2009/jan/11/rowing-fitness
Let’s all be at the HOP Regatta Sept 26 to support our team!
